The typical moving photo, aka wigs and clothes are god-knows-where so some are bald and some are...questionably dressed. But that little boy looks good in everything, with everything, and without anything.  He's just too stinking cute!  And we're back to trying things for Gabe, but at least I think he's keeping that name as it has seemed to stick through all the different changes.  I did however remove the epoxy ears I had put on him, which was surprisingly easy.  I was dreading it, but a bit of sanding and pressure and they popped right off.  He so needs a face up soon though, this blankness has gone on for too long! Perhaps once I'm settled in my new place the weather will cooperate.  

Also on an unrelated note, cute dog photo!  Bear settled down to nap with my Totoro and Catbus plush, and it was too cute an opportunity to pass up.

I'd like to say I had a superbly productive weekend but...my nose would probably grow so long it would poke right out the door!  I was totally lazy this weekend, though not for lack of trying.  I did manage to restring Arashi, but still no name for him.  

I think at this point I'm just going to go with "Arashi" for the time being and just see what happens.  I'm also leaving him blank for now, partially because I don't have all the materials/weather for a face up, but mostly because I really like him blank.  I actually was just reading through a thread the other day on DoA about people who intentionally leave their dolls blank.  He has always been one I loved blank, more than any other doll.  There's just something about the sculpting that can get lost under a face up.  So for now he remains blank.

I did also order him some new clothes, namely a Wicked Stitchery Halloween grab bag.  These are my absolute favorite grab bags, and I've bought several in the past.  They always give you your money's worth (and then some!), and it's always very lovely items.  Uri has gotten two thus far, and I've always been impressed with them. So when it arrives I will do a little bag opening and review.

And in non doll news, just because he's so cute, here's my dog in his Halloween costume.  He's a (disgruntled) strawberry!

Mini Convention Post

I took Uri on a last minute adventure to Anime Boston this weekend, and of course I got next to no pictures of the convention. But I did snap a couple of him.

We were sitting in the food court of the convention center here freaking people out (as usual).

Convention swag! There was a doll booth in the artist alley!  Milk and Honey was the maker, and the clothes are fantastic quality.  A review sometime soon!

After arriving home, a shot of Uri in his new shirt.  He looks as tired as I felt.

Mori Uri

Spent last night working on a new mori outfit for Uri.  The bloomers are the same from the previous outfit, the top I made from an old linen shirt I had bought years ago at Goodwill.  I *love* Uri in this style even more than I thought I would.  I can't wait to get some pictures of the two of us together.

And my little "helper." :)  Bear assumes that any time I'm sitting on the floor I'm free game, so he kept crawling into my lap and knocking my camera out of focus.  So I had to take some pictures of him too.

 

And now for something completely different...

Since I don't have any doll-related posts worked out yet, I thought I'd dip into one of my other hobbies/collections instead: rings.

I have loved jewelry since the moment I could wear some, but rings have always held a certain special place in my heart. I don't know if it's because they adorn my hands, which are an important part of the body to me. Or maybe it's because you can wear a different one on every finger. :P Whatever the reason, I have collected rings since I was young.

We're not just talking simple bands either, my collection ranges from unique to...well weird. I have rings fashioned after vampire teeth*, from Greece, and even one made out of dog hair**. It's become my little tradition to buy myself a new piece of jewelry every Valentine's Day. While I'm definitely not opposed to receiving gifts of jewelry, I always thought it was silly how people would wait around for someone else to buy them a ring or a necklace just because. So I make a point to purchase myself something small around Valentine's Day as a sort of affirmation that I can do it all on my own. :)

This year I decided to reach deep down into my dork-dom and buy myself a ring from a bit of fan fiction I've worked on forever. As I've mentioned before I'm a big Sailor Moon fan, and I've spent the last twelve years writing and re-writing SM fiction with the same main character. This particular character has a ring in the story which acts as her transformation device (if you've ever watched/read SM you'll know what I'm talking about), and I've always wanted something like it. So I've been scouring the internet and local jewelry stores to find something similar, but with it's own kind of attitude.

I'd found a handful of "maybe" rings, and decided on a whim to check out my local artisan jewelry store and...bingo! I found a beautiful ring*** with all the necessary components (and attitude) by a local artist who I've heard of many times before. This ring is similar to the one I've purchased, except mine has a pink sapphire versus the orange/red. The ring also looks much better in person, and is *so* me!

It's a little pricier than what I'd normally select for my Valentine's Day purchase, but it's so beautiful and locally made so I really can't complain. The jewelry store has a fantastic layaway program, so in just a few short weeks the ring will be on my finger where it belongs. :)
