Dolly Karma

I like to joke that "dolly karma" is a thing.  Basically, do good things in the dolly world and it will come back to you.  So when I was able to put Fumiko's new Obitsu body on layaway, I said that was my doll karma coming back to me.  But I had even more recently that is almost a little too crazy to believe.

When I first got Uri, I purchased some lovely cat eyes from Ersa Flora.  They were just stunning, and fit Uri perfectly.  When I moved to my first apartment, a lot of doll stuff got packed away.  For whatever reason I went into the garage (where everything was stored) and was grabbing some doll stuff, and saw that Uri's eyes were wonky.  So of course I decided to try and fix them, and managed to drop one into the recesses of the garage. 0_0

I scoured that garage, and even took apart all the boxes/bags in the area, but I found nothing.  I finally decided it was a lost cause and gave up.  I later got him different eyes from Ersa Flora, but kept the lone cat eye just in case.

Cut to a few weeks ago when my mother's garage collapsed under the snow.  Thankfully no one was inside or near it, but a lot of our stuff was.  We got a company to come and lift the walls so we could get anything salvageable out, and more than we expected was able to be saved.  I dug out pretty much all of my doll stuff, and put it in new containers.  My mother handed me a small bag that she'd put some random items she'd found in, including some doll hands (Fumiko's) and some camera cards.  And there in the bottom of the bag, was the missing eye.  She'd found it in the debris, and tucked it into the bag to give to me.  Not a scratch on it.

Now that is dolly karma.

Fumiko and the evil flash.

Some more shots of Fumiko, with the evil flash because my room was far too dark for good shots.  She will be getting a new (to me) body soon that's considerably less...well endowed.  I like the DDy body, but it's really not right for her character or for me.  I'll be keeping it at least for now, so she'll have an extra body to play with.

Fumiko!

I was honestly considering selling/trading her, but I couldn't. Not with a face like this! I know she looks a little psychotically cute, but I think it works for her. :)

The typical moving photo, aka wigs and clothes are god-knows-where so some are bald and some are...questionably dressed. But that little boy looks good in everything, with everything, and without anything.  He's just too stinking cute!  And we're back to trying things for Gabe, but at least I think he's keeping that name as it has seemed to stick through all the different changes.  I did however remove the epoxy ears I had put on him, which was surprisingly easy.  I was dreading it, but a bit of sanding and pressure and they popped right off.  He so needs a face up soon though, this blankness has gone on for too long! Perhaps once I'm settled in my new place the weather will cooperate.

Also on an unrelated note, cute dog photo!  Bear settled down to nap with my Totoro and Catbus plush, and it was too cute an opportunity to pass up.

Body Stuff

Creative title is creative.

So I mentioned a few posts ago how I had sort of make a Frankenstein body for Ghost out of his SD10 torso (one piece), and arms/legs of the SD13 body.  It actually worked pretty well aside from some wonkiness in the legs, but he could stand and sit and pose.  However it wasn't really ideal as it was, and I wasn't sure I wanted to take on the daunting task of modding his torso to accept those SD13 legs.  So...back to the drawing board.  Or rather the sand paper.

Armed with more sandpaper and an iPod full of "move" music (aka Dropkick Murphys!), I attacked the neck of the SD13 body again.  I had sanded it before, but I hadn't really taken enough off to make it look quite right.  Not this time though, this time I defeated the thick-necked enemy!

It still needs some finishing work, to smooth the resin out a bit.  But overall I'm pretty satisfied with the fit.  He still retains a good range of motion, and the head sits much better than it did before.

Random photos...

I've been so busy with moving lately that I really haven't had a chance to do anything doll related.  Hopefully once things are settled I get get my butt back into gear, Ghost could use some love!  I did take some photos of him this weekend in the fuzzy morning light.  Hence why he's glowing in the first. :)
