I started some work on Ghost last night with my dremel and let's just say it didn't quite turn out as I hoped. Actually the dremel work is nice, it's just the exacto knife I used prior to mark out the area messed it up. However, nothing is damaged or irreparable. Just in need of more work later. :)
This process made me realize just how easy it is to get discouraged when you make a mistake, especially in a medium where there is sort of no going back. Technically I could sand him down all over, and/or use epoxy, but those require a lot more work than I'd like to do.
But it's true, when something art-wise doesn't go the way I'd like, it is upsetting. Especially where my dolls are concerned. I'll admit I put Ghost aside for the night with very mixed feelings. Would I buy him another body? Do that sanding/epoxy work? Just stop taking him out until I figured what to do? But by morning I had settled my mind, and realized that just about anything is fixable. Hell, I remember a DoA thread where a doll head was hit by a car and subsequently repaired. So this is really minimal.
Plus, the Volks SD10 (old) torso is a behemoth when it comes to resin thickness. I have a very, very long way to go before I'd risk any structural problems. So I'm going to just take a breath, and go back to it when I get home. You learn something new every day. :) As for good news, the other marks I did without the exacto knife outline turned out exactly like I wanted. So they at least give me the confidence to keep going. It's been a while since I last used my dremel, but it's kind of like riding a bike.

Real life...taking over...send help...
Thankfully things have quieted down, but it's been a rather tumultuous and crazy time since I last blogged. Went on a mini vacation, came home to drama, moving to a new apartment, more drama, and finally SNOW. Yes, all in caps, if you could see how much snow we're getting you'd understand.
As such the doll fun has been left behind a bit while real world concerns take over. I did however finally name my new boy, though it was quite the process. I went back and forth on several names since I got him, none of which seemed to fit him right. And then I wrote something about how he was a ghost haunting me without a name...And so Ghost it was. :)
He definitely needs a new wig, preferably in white as that seems like what he wants to dress in. And some kind of new face up. I wiped him this week thinking I was going to do something new and different, but for some strange reason I really like him blank. Isn't that always the case with my Volks dolls? But it really seems to work well with his pale eyes and pale outfits/hair. We'll see, if I can find a way to do a very simple face up that I like, I may put a little color in there.
For now here's a shot of him in the mori outfit I made for Uri a while back. Uri really isn't a white clothing kind of guy, though he indulges me from time to time. But Ghost really works well in it, so I think we've found his style.
No wig, though more often than not I seem to be keeping him around without one. I'm thinking I might just make him a cute knitted hat for the time being.

I apologize in advance for lagging updates for the next few days. I usually try to post more when I get a new doll, but I seem to have come down with some god awful virus thing...So I'm just going to drink hot water and shivery in my big sweater for a while. But here are some pictures from today. And yes, I am at work despite being ill, such is life. :/
In an effort to brighten my day a bit, I dressed Mr. Doll and I in matching outfits. Yeah, I'm that much of a dork. I did edit out my face however because I'm sick and quite miserable. No unhappy faces on the blog! I've found that I may need to get some new clothes for Mr. Doll, as he is just a smidge too small for most of Uri's things. Shirts are okay, they just come off baggy and with very long sleeves. But the pants fit a little awkwardly. They are too big i the waist and often rather long on the legs. Not completely unwearable, but not the best either. I don't quite know what his style will be though, so I'm hesitant to buy anything until that's figured out.
And a quick shot of Mr. Doll with his old face up before I removed it. Pretty, but not what I was looking for.
