Haku arrived!

My plush Haku arrived earlier this week and I was able to pick him up yesterday. For those unfamiliar with Spirited Away, you should go watch it now. I'll wait.

He is a chibi plush version of Haku the dragon who is one of the supporting characters of the story. His real form looks like this:

His chibi form looks like this:

He is super soft and squishy, and randomly he smells really nice. He s meant to be a cross between a plush and a pillow, though I don't think I would use him as a pillow very much. He needs to "breathe" a little more as he was packaged very tightly, but otherwise he looks great!

Pardon the wet hair, but look how cute he is!

Incoming Friend: Haku

I decided on a whim to search for Spirited Away plush, mostly out of curiosity if anything existed. I've seen some spectacular handmade plush (including some giant Haku!), but not much in the way of merchandise. I did find some very neat plush of some of the supporting characters, and then this plush of Haku.

It sort of does double duty as a plush and a neck pillow as it's made to sit around your neck. I think it would be fun for cosplay purposes, but also just because it's an adorable chibi version of Haku. He should be arriving tomorrow, though I may not be able to pick him up until later this week.

There be dragons!

I thought that since I featured Mr. Spock in my last post, I might as well bring up my other Build a Bear friend that I've had for a while. I give you Toothless, the most sparkly dragon around!

I got Toothless when I was going through some difficult times and needed a little extra cuddling in my life. I went with one of my very best friends (coincidentally the one whose wedding I just attended), and it was nice to have her present to give the trip even more meaning. I ended up picking out all sorts of fun clothing and accessories that didn't have much rhyme or reason, but looked good nonetheless. Toothless is a little harder to dress given their body shape, but I made it work. Here are a few more candid photos of my favorite dragon.

Yes, I am in fact dressed like a unicorn in this picture. I think I should bring dragon selfies back, they were fun!

Art time!

Not doll related, but art related.  My stepsister is graduating this week, and I wanted to give her something special as a gift.  She really loves unicorns, and I thought it might be neat to give her a gift inspired by them.  So this piece is sort of supposed to be reminiscent of the unicorn's horn. I have a little story written up to go with it, about the elusive North American unicorn that sheds it's horn every year like deer do their antlers. So the crystal piece is supposed to be a found piece of unicorn horn (no magical creatures were harmed in the making of this jewelry!).  I still need to make a box and a card, but I thought I'd take a few shots of it with my resident magical creature, a dragon I painted when I was in kindergarten.
